Changing for the Good

Authors Note: This is my Character Analysis piece. This is about a boy named Roger who did not have a good role model in his life. Roger changed by finding help by this lady that took him under her wing, even after trying to steel her purse.

This story was written by Langston Hughes, Thank You Ma’am is about a boy who grew up hard. He didn’t have a role model in his life. Since he didn't have a Mother or Father, he had no good influence on him. In the story the boy’s name is Roger. Without this good role model in life he would snatch women’s purses. But you can only steal so much until you get caught.

It was a regular day for Roger on the street. Today he plans to snatch another purse for some shoes he’s wanted. Roger ran up behind the women and grabbed her purse then pulled. The strap broke and everything fell out. The women tossed him around.

After she beat Roger she held him and questioned him. Roger was scared, he asked if she was going to turn him into the police. The lady noticed he was dirty and needed a cleaning. She asked if he’s ate tonight. The boy said “no one’s home.” The lady said “then we’ll eat at my house.”

After they ate Mrs. Bates offered if he would like to rest at her home. Roger was feeling as if he’s found someone to be a good role model for him, and Roger replied “Yes Please.” The next morning Roger wanted to say thank you, but when Mrs. Bated came down she gave him 10 dollars and said go buy yourself those shoes you’ve wanted.

Mrs. Bates opened up the door and Roger walked out. Roger wanted to say thank you, but just then she closed the door. From then on Roger realized that the Mrs. Bates was right and decided to change his life.
